After a while of using your Android phone you may notice that it has become slow, unlike usual, and this is a common problem faced by a large number of Android phone users, as after we start using the phone, we notice that it's fast in opening applications and switching between them, but after a period of time, a decrease in the overall speed of the device will be occur. So in this article, we will talk about the reasons that lead to this problem and we will present some effective solutions that you can try to restore your Android phone speed and improve its overall performance.
Why is my Phone so Slow:
There are many reasons why Android phones slow down after a while of use, but I will tell you about the main reasons that lead to this problem.
1- Not Enough Storage Space:
One of the main reasons for the slowness of Android phones and the decrease in performance is the filling of the phone's storage space, especially the internal phone storage on which the Android system is installed. The reason for this is that the system needs enough free space to store temporary files, cache data, and other data, and in case you don't have free space the phone won’t work smoothly and will be unresponsive.
Also the installed apps won't be able to store their data if you don't have enough storage space. In this case the apps won't work smoothly and will crash when you try to open it.
2- Running too many Apps:
Another reason why your Android phone might be slow is that you have installed a large number of applications and games on your phone and you run more than one app at the same time.
The idea is that running more than one app on the Android phone will consume resources, such as the CPU, RAM, and battery power. So you will put a strain on the processor and use a large part of the Random Access Memory "RAM", and as a result of that you will notice that your device has become slow and doesn't respond to commands quickly. If your RAM gets filled up, your device might slow down more.
3- Background Apps:
Background Apps run continuously in the background of the system and keep refreshing when you aren't using them, such as social media applications and others. As a result of that the Background Apps will drain the phone resources "RAM & CPU" and your phone will be so slow.
4- Outdated Software:
Outdated operating systems can become slow over time, so one of the reasons that can lead to a slow phone is that you aren't updating the Android system. The update process is important to improve the overall performance of the phone and fix problems that exist in old versions of the system.
5- Phone's Hardware isn't Powerful Enough:
The reason your Android phone may be slow is that the phone's hardware isn't powerful enough, and here we refer to the processor and RAM used in the phone. As is well known, the speed of a device depends primarily on the processor and RAM. So if the size of RAM is large, you will have a fast Android device "The phone's performance will be better" and your phone will run the apps simultaneously without any slowing down. Also, if the CPU is strong and fast, your phone will be fast and you won't suffer from running applications.
Note: The number of processor cores affect the phone performance, because with more cores the CPU will handle multitasking better.
How to speed up Android phone:
1- Free up Storage Space:
To improve the performance of your Android phone and speed it up, you must first free up storage space on the internal phone memory. This requires you to do some things, as we will explain in the following lines.
- First, delete all unused apps on your phone, as well as apps that you use but aren't very important to you. This will free up a lot of space on your phone's memory and will also reduce the processes that occur in the background of the system due to those deleted apps.
- Clear applications cache and data "Temporary Files" of unused apps from settings. This will help you to free up space. To do that, open "Settings", then go to "Apps" and search the app you want to delete its data and cache. After that tap "Storage" and then tap "Clear data".
- Move large size photos and videos to SD card or to your computer. This step will free up more storage space.
2- Limit Apps Background Activity:
As I mentioned above, the running of apps in the background of the system leads to an increase in draining the phone's resources ("Processor" and "RAM"), which will lead to the phone slowing down and decreasing overall performance. Therefore, all you have to do is limit the running of some apps in the background, especially applications that work in the background for long periods, such as social media applications and messaging applications.
If you use a Samsung Phone, you can open "Settings", then go to "Apps", tap the app you want to limit its background activity such as Facebook for example as you can see in the above image. After that tap the "Battery" option and deactivate the "Allow background activity" option to be Restricted.
3- Update Android System:
One of the important steps to speed up Android phones is to update the operating system to the latest version currently available, as the main purpose of any system update is to add new features to the phone and fix old problems and bugs, which will improve the phone speed and its performance, as well as improving the battery performance.
4- Update Apps:
You should also update the applications installed on your phone if there are official updates available for them. This is because updating apps fixes problems that may be in older versions, thus will improve the apps performance.
Note: Update the installed apps from Google Play store only to ensure you get the official secured updates.
